CARE Housing is recruiting for an Accountant ll who will play an integral role in overseeing our centralized accounting functions and real estate development project accounting.

Position Overview
Full-Time (8:00 – 4:30 M-F). The Accountant ll will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations and payments of real estate development project obligations, preparation of development sources and assisting in reconciling the development ledger accounts for CARE Housing and its properties.
Responsibilities / Duties
- Responsible for the integrity of the general ledger and adherence to GAAP.
- In partnership with the Director of Finance and Director of Housing Development, prepare and/or review development funding draw requests, create and provide reports, and assist with cost certifications.
- Prepare standard monthly consolidated financial statements including P&L and balance sheets.
- Ensure the timely completion of routine accounting functions including bank reconciliations and expense reports.
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial data, including accounts payable, accounts receivable and other balance sheet accounts.
- Supervise accounting staff including planning and assigning work.
- Review chart of account structures and accuracy of expense allocations to partnerships.
- Participate in financial and tax audits.
- Point of contact for Yardi accounting troubleshooting.
- Assist Property Management with tenant refunds, security deposit refunds, credits and tenant ledger clean up.
- Set up, maintain, and receive invoices for vendor accounts.
- Assist Director of Finance with preparation of internal and external reporting and processing as required by management and policies, including occupancy, property valuations, insurance, property taxes, and cash management exercises.
- Supervise accounting staff including planning and assigning work.
- Oversee Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) and USDA RD receivables in Yardi system.
- Stay up to date on changes to affordable housing finance and compliance regulations and make recommendations for process improvements and efficiencies.
- Recommend accounting policies, standard operating procedures, and programs to senior management to streamline accounting internal operations.
- Collaborate with external and internal customers and communicate issues that may place a project at risk to appropriate leadership and assist in creating action plans to help mitigate any risks and protect the residents and investments.
- Perform month-end, quarterly and annual closing activities including the preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations and ad hoc reporting and analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Experience in affordable housing development accounting, real estate development accounting, and/or construction accounting preferred. One year of supervisory experience. CPA certification preferred but not required.
Knowlege of
- Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs, HUD regulations, and state and local affordable housing guidelines.
- Microsoft applications including Excel.
- Property management and accounting software, YARDI Voyager preferred.
Ability to
- Analyze financial statements and budget variances.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date financial records and reports for multiple apartment communities.
Salary Range and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $62,000 to $67,000. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, as well as a retirement plan. We also offer a generous vacation accrual, holiday schedule, tuition reimbursement assistance and on-going training and opportunities for growth. Eligible for hybrid remote/in office schedule after initial performance evaluation period.
