Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca has sent a letter to the Governor and other state officials hoping they will support a bill to extend the dissolution of California’s redevelopment agencies to April 15th. The Sheriff is concerned that any remaining redevelopment costs incurred may be taken out of the law enforcement budget and therefore cut into the law enforcement services provided.
“I am told that my contract city managers will be reducing patrol cars with assigned deputies, detectives and forensic technicians. This is unacceptable to me,” Baca wrote.
The concern that cities will be left with the bill for unfinished projects while the state takes those funds could put cities already on hard times into a very difficult financial situation.
