Nimbyism in Iowa

Anawim Housing has decided to withdraw its site plan application for 1801 Mckinley Ave and no longer plans to build affordable housing on the site.  The residents Watrous South  opposed an affordable housing development named Mckinley Crest. Opponents of the project collected 1200 signatures to oppose the project forcing the non-profit to reconsider tis development plans.  The residents pointed to fears of lower property values and strains on community resources as reasons to oppose the development as reports in the De Moines Register.

“This is still an important project. This is still an important project for the 60 families that still need affordable housing in our community,” said Russ Frazier the President of Anawim Housing.
